Making High Quality SVCDs
compatible with standalone DVD-players

1) |
check your source file, if it's an avi with
vbr audio then reconvert the audiotrack to a 256kbit cbr mp3 stream
using virtual dub
YOu can download a free copy from the virtualdub
website |
2) |
split your avi source file again using virutal
dub
(max. length <45mins for XVCD, <50mins for SVCD, <82mins
for VCD) |
3) |
calculate the needed video rate for each part:
audio stream: 224kbit, file size 830.000kb (fits on a 700mb cdr)
bitrate=(830000*8/LengthInSeconds)-224 |

5) |
In TMPGenc select 2-pass
vbr encoding and set your calculated average bit rate.
other parameters: maximum bitrate=3500, minimum=300
screen resolutions: VCD: PAL
352x288 @25fps, NTSC 352x240 @30fps or 23,976fps
SVCD: PAL 480x576 @25fps, NTSC 480x480 @30fps or 23,976fps
XVCD: PAL 704x576 @25fps, NTSC 704x480 @30fps
You may set the option 'Profile & Level' to MP@HL, this provides
a litte bit better picture quality and should work on any standalone
player.
Encode mode = Interlace
YUV format = 4:2:0
DC component precision = 11bit
Motion search precision = Highest Quality
Select the correct Aspect ratio for PC Players
CLick the TAB System, check if the stream type fits to your target
format:
MPEG-1 Video CD (non-standard) or MPEG2-Super Video CD (VBR) has
to be selected, otherwise the MPG may not fit on a 700MB cdr! |

Use File->Add current project to batch list->MPEG
to create a batch job. Repeat the same procedure for all parts to
be converted! |

Press Run in the Batch Processing Window |
